Matching Existing Deck & Updated Space [2022]

Project Brief

Cost Effective Deck Options

This deck was a diamond in the rough, just waiting for the opportunity to shine.

After 20 years of deck maintenance and repairs, the homeowners were ready for an easier, maintenance-free outdoor living space. The bones of the layout were already beautiful, and the homeowner was very happy with the existing plan.

Sometimes, building an entirely new deck just doesn’t make as much sense. Other times, giving your outdoor living space a facelift isn’t worth it. It’s critical to know what you’re looking at during consultations and demo phases in order to provide not only the best scope of work and quote but also the best results. If you love your current design and space but need to bring it into 2022, we can help.

This is your dream home. We’re just here to help guide you to the solution that best fits your goals. In this case, we were able to help match the existing deck and give the space a new lease on life.

You’ve Got A Layout? We’ve Got The Experts.

Like all our projects it started with a call, followed by a on site consultation.  The list of requests included:

  • rebuilding a matching deck
  • weather-proof decking
  • low maintenance
  • updated safety protocols
  • hardscaping surrounding deck
  • landscaping to maximize area

After demolishing this deck, we were able to start fresh.

From Deck Demo to Deck Diamond

As we began peeling back the existing deck, we discovered a few safety hazards. This happens in nearly any home renovation project – interior or exterior. Building codes change, materials degrade, and best practices evolve. Our team of experts always prioritizes safety, so we started there.

The supports for the overhanging rough were improper and lacking. That’s not a detail we wanted to skimp – especially because it can increase the value of the project by extending the seasons of enjoyment outdoors.

We took this opportunity to add a few fun design elements, including:

  • a splash of blue to add extra pop to the supports
  • custom planters for beautiful landscaping and container gardens
  • benching spanning between planters for added seating

The deck itself was finished with Azek coastline decking with hickory accents and Timbertech posts. We always recommend Azek decking material for its durability, strong warranty, and maintenance-free lifestyle. If you’re going to spend this much on an outdoor living space, you want it to last 15-20 years or more! And Azek’s return on investment in terms of happiness and years lived in a project are second to none!
